The Jersey City City Council voted tonight to enact an earned sick days policy for all the city’s workers. Below is a statement from NJPP president Gordon MacInnes.

“We congratulate Mayor Fulop and the Jersey City council members for showing New Jersey the wisdom of improving the economic security of all workers by granting them earned sick days. This is a common-sense policy whose time has clearly come, as evidenced by the growing momentum in cities and states around the nation. What’s more, experience in those cities and states strongly demonstrates that earned sick days are not ‘bad for business,’ as some opponents claim. We’ll keep building on this momentum to eventually ensure that all New Jersey’s workers don’t have to choose between getting paid and getting well.”
